Backstage Beauty at Tara Subkoff for Imitation Fall 2011 show

HAIR: Ouidad was backstage bringing old Hollywood Jane Russell-esque glamour with a modern twist by giving the models soft curls. She first sprayed the models’ hair with the Styling mist and added Tress Effects Styling Gel, Climate Control (to control frizz) and PlayCurl Volumizing Foam for body. Using different sized barrels (small, medium, and large), they curled the hair then set it by rolling it up and pinning it flat on the models hair to set. After letting the hair set while the models got their make up done, Ouidad and her team then gently brushed through with a paddle brush for a soft wave. Just a little bit of shine glaze sets this look off.

Get My Face: The “Gracie” Look
I recently visited the MAC counter at Pentagon City mall in Arlington, VA, minutes from DC. There, I met a makeup artist by the name of Gracie. She gave me the most amazing makeover, using MAC’s eye shadow pigments. Though she used colors from last season, it was helpful to see how the pigment shadow looked on my skin. MAC’s new pigments just came out earlier this year.

Model/blogger/makeup artist/entrepreneur Doe Deere recently founded Lime Crime — a new makeup line not meant for the faint of heart. It even has Lipstick Queen’s founder Poppy King gushing: “This is the beginning of something great.”
Deere, who’s based in New York, formulates her own highly-pigmented colors of hard-to-find bold lipstick shades as part of her Candyfuture collection, including a sky blue shade (appropriately named “No She Didn’t,” which she says is the most personality-charged of the bunch); a gothy black (“Styletto“); and a pretty lilac (“D’Lilac“), among others.
