Daily Candy and Hair Room Service’s Beauty Bus in SoHo today
If you’re around SoHo at all today, stop by the Beauty Bus! I went there this morning to check out what the buzz was all about and I’m so glad I did. For one, one of the stars of MY guilty pleasure-reality show, Patti Stranger Millionaire Matchmaker was in attendance:
But even MORE exciting for me, I met the ever-adorable SuChin Pak — she is so incredibly sweet. I’ve admired and have been wanting to meet her for some time now so it was a pretty serendipitous that she was there on her first day as DailyCandy’s new on-air correspondent.
Hair Room Service: Luxury at your door step
**READ TIL THE END FOR AN EXCLUSIVE BATF READER DISCOUNT**
If you’ve always thought the idea of beauty services coming to your doorstep was reserved for celebrities, you’ll be happy to hear about Hair Room Service. The NYC-based company, founded by stylist Michael Dueñas, is really the first of its kind. You can book one of his entourage of exclusive celebrity stylists (note, they ONLY staff celebrity stylists who’ve worked with the likes of Mariah Carey, Padma Lakshmi, Molly Sims, etc.) who will come to your apartment or hotel to get you all dolled up. You might be thinking it would cost a fortune, but haircuts start at $85 and makeup applications at $125…which if you’re living in the city is about how much you’d pay to go to an upscale salon.
Kerrie Urban played with my hair and this is how it looked

“Loose, beachy waves are what’s in for summer,” she told me. “This style is great for all hair types because it can give limp hair body, or it can control thick hard to manage textured hair.”
She added that it’s important to make it not look “too done,” so she advises when you’re curling your hair, take larger sections and using only use the outside of the curling iron (read: don’t use the clamp!), just wrap your hair loosely around it.
Kerrie Urban on your shampoo habits

The adorable stylist Kerrie Urban gave me some fun waves today and I had to ask her – what hair ‘mistake’ would she saypeople do all to often? Her response: Over-shampooing.
Daily shampoo dries out the scalp and causes your oil glands to over-produce oil, so you end up in this vicious cycle of greasy hair or a dry scalp. She says 2 or 3 times a week max is ideal (if even that!). Otherwise, just a rinse and a little conditioning for the ends (especially if you have long hair) is an ideal routine.
Quick solution to tame the frizz

So you know how I was complaining about how the humidity and rain has been wreaking (frizzy) havoc on my hair? Just met a lovely hairstylist today, Kerrie Urban, who’s worked with Aveda, with whom of course, I was sharing my frizz woes with. The best quick fix she says? Carry a small travel size hair spray with you to smooth it down.
“It’s the best thing way to smooth our those tiny frizzies,” she said. “So many people turn to oil and silicones and it just ends up making hair too greasy.”
