The Impossible Cool
The Impossible Cool is a photography blog I love+follow. It couldn’t have had a more fitting title. It’s a collection account of vintage photographs of serious style icons. Most of the pictures are black and white. I’m not sure why, but I have a strong affinity towards black and white photos (if you’ve ever scoped out my walls in my apartment, you’d know).
I remember once listening to photographer Norman Gershman speak at a gallery in SoHo. He prefers shooting in black and white himself and he said something to the effect of “I find color distracting.” I think there’s some truth in that. In the same way, I find these portraits kind of unfilter something so telling about its subjects. Their style is yes, impossibly cool, but it’s something more–their stance, their eyes, their confidence that seems to translate so purely through the photos. For a while, I feel like the blog had a bit of lull in posting, but it’s finally being updated again so I thought it’d be a great time to share. I’ve already been through the entire thing twice! Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you've never dreamed were possible.
I caught the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit at the MET last week. The madness and genius of the late-designer will have you leaving the exhibit awe-struck and inspired. Today’s the last day to catch it yourself. The museum will remain open until midnight to accommodate as many last-minute visitors as possible — and expect there to be a lot. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and the hoards of people caused me to endure a two-hour wait just to get in. A very worth it two-hour wait, might I add.

Inspiration of the Day: Yuna
I don’t think I’ve ever had one of our “Beauty on the Streets” serve as my “Inspiration of the Day” in the same week…but I can’t help it this time! After just barely missing her first NYC show at the Mercury Lounge the first time she was in town, I was pumped to catch Yuna at Webster Hall last night, opening for Raphael Saadiq. Needless to say, she blew the crowd away, playing songs from her new EP, Decorate, and even throwing in a cover of Nirvana’s Come As You are (gahhh one of my faves!!), just adding to the list of reasons why she’s so brilliantly talented. Check out some snippets of her performance last night below:
