Vacation playlist

Hi everyone!! I’m sorry for the dead air on here. I took a few days off and recuperating from weeks of non-stop work, running around, and all that jazz. I’ll still be posting soon…just thought I’d explain since this is the longest I’ll go without writing anything!! In the mean time, these songs have been on repeat on my playlist so I thought I’d share :D .

Foster the People
– Pumped Up Kicks
Beyoncé – End of Time
Lupe Fiasco ft Skylar Grey – Words I Never Said
The Hours (Calvin Harris remix) – See the Light
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano
Stromae ft. Kanye West - Alors on Dans

I’m so random.

Inspiration of the Day: 41 Strings+Loomstate Earth Day concert

Ok, so they’re about a month late, but I’m so glad organic and environmentally-conscious brand, Loomstate decided to carry out the 41 strings concert last Wednesday in honor of Earth Day anyway. Forty-one musicians (including Nick Zinner and Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Hisham Akira Bharoocha and Ben Vida of Soft Circle) got together to perform in front of an audience of about 1,400 at the Hudson Hotel in midtown.

Stage set up for the 41 strings + Loomstate concert

Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

(The back of) Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Instead of performing on a stage, the group assembled in a circle, facing each other while they played and the audience stood right behind them (or on the 2nd floor loft watching from above. Last year, they had 40 drummers, but this year it was focused on, well, strings (guitars, violins, cellos). And OK, so I know it’s not technically makeup or food, but I love sharing some of the more inspiring performances and sights I find in New York. I took some videos (albeit, kinda crappy because I was standing right behind drummer Brian Chase and didn’t have the best angle for taping purposes), but hope you enjoy anyway — the songs have been stuck in my head!

Ok, now off to The Makeup Show! So much more to update you guys on, if only I can manage to get a minute to sit down and catch you all up!

Inspiration of the Day: Yuna

Yuna performing at Webster Hall

I don’t think I’ve ever had one of our “Beauty on the Streets” serve as my “Inspiration of the Day” in the same week…but I can’t help it this time! After just barely missing her first NYC show at the Mercury Lounge the first time she was in town, I was pumped to catch Yuna at Webster Hall last night, opening for Raphael Saadiq. Needless to say, she blew the crowd away, playing songs from her new EP, Decorate, and even throwing in a cover of Nirvana’s Come As You are (gahhh one of my faves!!), just adding to the list of reasons why she’s so brilliantly talented. Check out some snippets of her performance last night below:

Inspiration of the Day: Hindi Zahra – Beautiful Tango

Hindi Zahra

Berber singer, Hindi Zahra’s voice is incredibly beautiful. I’ve been getting lost in her songs lately, so I had to share.

‘Influenced by the great Maghreb singers and the Egyptian divas, Hindi was brought up on traditional Berber music and also the local rock’n’roll her musician uncles played. Other early influences were Ali Farka Touré’s Sahara blues and the folk sounds of Ismaël Lô. The young Hindi also listened to African-American music (“anything with a groove”), as well as Bob Marley.’ - RFI Musique
